Usona Volunteer Program Overview
The Usona Volunteer Program is the driving force that allows our organization, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit medical research organization, to do incredible work towards fulfilling our mission.
Together, we can make a real impact to bring novel mental health treatments closer to the people who might benefit from them. Thank you!
Volunteering for Usona Events
Our training facilities are designed to accommodate 70+ attendees, providing a conducive environment for immersive learning experiences, open exchange of ideas, and knowledge sharing. With an inviting and aesthetically designed environment, complemented by a team of subject matter experts and knowledge leaders, our campus is an ideal setting for curriculum and immersive programs aimed at preparing the first generation of leaders in science, clinical research, healthcare, and academia.
Examples of Event Volunteer Responsibilities are:
- Setting up and cleaning up meals
- Bartending (serving complimentary wine, beer and non-alcoholic beverages)
- Setting up and cleaning up event spaces
- Refreshing snacks and beverages
- Laundering, folding and restocking towels and linens
- Rolling silverware
Volunteering in the Solara Therapy and Wellness Center
In addition to the state-of-the-art training facilities, the campus also offers an elegantly crafted hydrotherapy center, therapeutic massage, and somatic therapy rooms. These spaces provide a tranquil setting, enhancing the therapeutic and wellness journey.
Examples of Event and/or Solara Volunteer Responsibilities are:
- Greeting visitors using the space and walking them through our sanitation and safety protocols and available amenities
- Laundering, folding and restocking towels, wellness service sheets and amenity supplies
Volunteering with Outdoor Landscaping
Usona Outdoor Volunteers are critical to create the calming and beautiful presence enjoyed by our visitors.
Outdoor Volunteers sign up for projects or maintenance on an individual or group basis.
Examples of Outdoor Volunteer Responsibilities are:
- Maintaining the plants and landscaping of designated areas
- Removal and pruning of dead plants
- Spreading of mulch
- Watering and weeding
Volunteering with Indoor Plants
There are numerous plants throughout the Usona building and we even have an indoor greenhouse, Amazonia.
In order to keep our plants healthy and happy, we rely on support from Promega Horticultural Services as well as volunteers.
Examples of Indoor Plant Responsibilities are:
- Watering the plants in an assigned area on a regular basis, often around weekly
- Informing the Usona team of any issues with any of the plants in your area
Volunteering with Usona Tours
Usona provides tours of our building to groups from the Promega team, Usona and Promega visitors, and community partners. A tour group can be anywhere from 1 - 20 people in size and takes about an hour total from start to finish.
For the purpose of providing tours of Usona to groups from the Promega team in Madison and around the world, we train Promega volunteers so that they feel confident to lead these tour experiences. We'll even show you how to operate our Luminosity light (pictured here) so that you can provide a demo of a Sound and Light Experience for your group!
Volunteering for Special Projects at Usona
In order to support us in working towards our mission, we occasionally request assistance with special projects at Usona from volunteers who express an interest. For these items, volunteers will receive a description of the project or task before they sign up.
Examples of potential special projects at Usona are:
- Assisting with coordinating a holiday mailing to say thank you to our key donors or clinical research partners
- Helping with seasonal projects like removing/reinstalling window screens
If you have specific expertise that you would like to offer to Usona to use should the need arise, please don't hesitate to let us know!
